Memorize Scripture

One of the sub-virtues of Prudence, dear Princess of God, is memory. You should be striving to improve your memory and practice this virtue of remembering the right things when they are needed, with the help of your guardian angel.

Your guardian angel will help you to remember good things and scripture verses when such an occasion arises and you need to remember to do the right things.

You can greatly help out both your guardian angel and your memory or the virtue of memory, by actively working to memorize psalms, the beatitudes, the ten commandments, prayers, and other passages of scripture.

One miraculous incident involving the virtue of memory was the apparition of Our Lady in Montana on Christmas Eve in 1841. There was a young Indian child who couldn’t memorize his prayers or the catechism in order to be baptized no matter how hard he tried. Fortunately, Mary took so much pity that she miraculously appeared and he described the meeting as follows: “I could see her heart, from which rays of light burst forth and shone upon me. When I first beheld all this I was frightened, but afterwards my fear left me; my heart was warmed, my mind clear, and I do not know how it happened, but all at once I knew my prayers.”

Dear Princess of God, work to memorize Scripture, prayers, and your catechism as well so that you can call upon that knowledge when you need to apply it in your life more readily.

As Jesus says, “A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4And as he was sowing, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured it. 5Some fell on rocky ground, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly because the soil was shallow. 6But when the sun rose, the seedlings were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the seedlings. 8Still other seed fell on good soil and produced a crop—a hundredfold, sixtyfold, or thirtyfold. 9He who has ears, let him hear.”

When you memorize Scripture, it is like planting seeds deeply in the soil of your heart and mind and when you apply those Scriptures in your daily life because you remember to do so and remember what was said, you are like this last category bearing a crop of perhaps a hundredfold.
